This tour offers the ideal introduction to the country’s almost endless archeological ruins, beguiling history, photo-worthy landscapes and charming people from start to finish.
You’ll stay in a luxury hotel in the Sacred Valley, situated beside the river, as you then discover a wealth of top Inca sites and traditional settlements alike such as Maras, Moray, the towering fortress of Ollantaytambo and village of Chinchero.
Next, a guided tour of Machu Picchu will be something to really remember, as you discover the ‘Lost City of the Inca’ in the company of a private guide, as well as enjoying some leisure time to take it all in at your own pace too. And there’s no better place to finish things off than in Cusco, where a bewitching mix of colonial and Inca architecture from Cusco Cathedral to the imposing Saqsaywaman Fortress will leave you spellbound.
This tour starts as it means to go on, landing in Cusco (home to some of Peru’s finest architecture and archaeology), before heading deep into the Sacred Valley accompanied by a private guide.
Upon arrival then, you’ll be met at Cusco airport to begin your onward journey to Tambo del Inka, a beautifully Sacred Valley hotel that also enjoys a spectacular riverside setting too. This is an ideal setting to acclimatize yourself for Machu Picchu, in two days’ time.
Day 2 delves deep into Inca history with some of the Sacred Valley’s greatest sites, beginning with a look at traditional life in Chinchero village, where a weaving demonstration will take place after breakfast.
Next comes the agricultural terraces of Moray, one of the most impressive ancient sites in Peru. These stepped platforms are in fact an Inca food laboratory, where each terrace replicated weather conditions throughout the empire. That way, Inca scientists could learn what grew and what didn’t, to maximize crop yields throughout the year!
From Moray, enjoy lunch in the Sacred Valley followed by another ancient marvel—the Maras Salt Mines. These spectacular hillside salt pools have not changed since Inca times, and are still used to this day. Finally, the huge monuments, fortress and terraces of Ollantaytambo are the perfect end to a wonderful day.
Machu Picchu is considered the world’s best travel destination, an ancient wonder of the world and highlight of South America in one. Today, you can decide for yourself thanks to a guided tour and afternoon exploring this, the great ‘Lost City’ of the Inca.
You’ll begin in style with a private train boarding at Tambo del Inka’s own platform (Sacred Valley train that includes meals on board), followed by a scenic journey through the Sacred Valley to Aguas Calientes, and onwards to Machu Picchu. Then, simply absorb the magic of Peru’s most iconic ancient site with a fascinating guided tour, before enjoying it all at your own pace with some priceless leisure time.
Once lost to the jungle for hundreds of years before its 20th-century rediscovery, Machu Picchu conjures images of gold-clad Inca kings, explorers and myth, aided no end by its unmistakable mountaintop setting; there really is nowhere quite like it.

Cusco is home to some of Peru’s greatest archeological sites, most fascinating history and atmospheric streets too—all of which you will get to experience during an extensive walking tour today. Among the many highlights of Cusco, San Pedro Market and its stalls of crafts and wares is a good place to start, followed by a walk through some of the city’s ancient streets and plazas, to the Cathedral, Saqsaywaman Fortress, Santo Domingo Convent and the Qorikancha Temple.
The last of these is a spectacular Inca building that was once clad entirely in gold, though the colonial architecture throughout the city is just as impressive. Your discovery of Cusco concludes with an intimate tour of Palacio del Inka and the Mansion of Cuatro Bustos, a marvelous 500-year-old building full of priceless original artworks.
As your trip draws to an end, a private vehicle will be on-hand to take you to the airport, ready for your onward flight home.
